Just Some Rants From Here and There, Tirades and Raves From Everywhere (Zack Patterson)

11/28/2018

WARNING: The following contains obnoxious opinions, language and potential spoilers!

    Ok so, there has been a lot of movie-related news and information coming out the last couple weeks and me, being the person that I am, needed a space to talk and/or complain about those things so let’s talk about the news…

Stan Lee
    Tragically, he passed away this month. It finally happened. We knew it would eventually, but we still were not ready. I wanted to commemorate him personally so I cut together a small video celebrating his legacy.
Honestly I cried when I found out about his passing, because the man’s work did so much to inspire me when I needed it the most. People always ask me why Spiderman is my favorite, especially because I hate spiders. Honestly, it's because of Peter Parker. He’s bullied, he’s lonely and thinks he will end up a nobody. Then his powers came and after some harsh lessons about how to use them, he gets everything he ever wanted. Parker inspired me to keep fighting when it felt like the entire world was against me, when I had virtually no friends and struggled to get through a school day without encountering some kind of horrible bullying. Even now, I find comfort in reading the comics after a rough day, and have found some of the greatest things in my life because I have lived by his code. I’m grateful to Stan more than many for these reasons and I hope his work will continue to inspire us all, especially those still trying to make sense of it all.

Toy Story 4
    We knew it was coming, most people were happy about it, but you better believe I am not one of them. Toy Story 3 is one of the most overrated Pixar movies of all time. It borrows plot-lines from the last film and Brave Little Toaster with none of the delivery we got from either of those films AND it chickened out in every moment of peril making you feel like you wasted a good chunk of your viewing (Read my blog about Script Armor). So when they first announced Toy Story 4 years ago, I was the first to say no, and one of the few who did. That mentality was not affected by the release of the first trailer either. To be fair, the teaser didn’t really show anything, but it's already more than enough for me. They also just released some BS article saying that Tom Hanks can’t even watch the film because the ending is so rough…anybody with half a brain can tell you what that means about the ending. I’m sure critics will bow before it in reverence, plenty of people will go see it  and will say how they cried and it's the best Pixar movie ever, but that doesn’t mean it will be true. This movie will be average at best and severely overrated, just like 3…

Some More Disney Stuff
    The teaser trailer for the Lion King appeared literally out of nowhere! HUGE Thanksgiving surprise from Disney during the Redskins/Cowboys game! AND IT LOOKED GREAT! The visuals were stunning! I know I’m going back on what I said about Disney remakes but man this looks good, even though I’m sure it will be 99% exactly the same as the original. The whole world seemed to think so too, as it exploded all over the internet.
Sadly I was a lot less impressed with the Aladdin teaser, that’s a remake I didn’t really want and my opinion hasn't changed after seeing the trailer.
I saw Christopher Robin and it was so wonderful and pure. You all seriously gotta see it if you ever loved Winnie the Pooh. It’s overwhelmingly heartwarming nostalgia and it works 100%. Bravo Disney

Venom
    So Venom recently was released in China and ended up scoring big on its debut. Earnings-wise it’ll now be within the top 10 or 15 movies this year as it approaches 800 MILLION DOLLARS. I liked this movie more than most so I’m enjoying this, especially since its beating the crap outta almost every DC movie as well. Lots of ramifications from this situation. First and foremost, Sony is still a power player when it comes to Marvel and I’m sure that has shaken some things up in the House of Mouse. Sony may be rethinking their current Spider-man arrangement based on these numbers. Second, Venom has more pull as a character than even I expected. This movie’s financial success rests solely on the excessive demand this character has seen since his disastrous Spider man 3 appearance. Disney should consider more playing nice with Sony so the symbiote can finally join some of his Marvel counterparts. Third, Sony will no doubt move forward with their AWFUL villains universe thing. Nobody wants a Morbius movie or a Silver Sable movie OR a Black Cat movie. Venom’s success will be short-lived after any or all of these movies bomb hideously. Finally, Venom 2 is a certainty at this point, and I really hope they don't screw it up…

The Lego Movie 2
    So I love the Lego Movie. It is very underrated and to me is one of the best animated films ever. The Lego Batman Movie is also a hilarious and heartwarming film. Ninjago was kinda meh, but nobody’s perfect, still some laughs here and there but I digress. I have been waiting for the Lego Movie sequel FOREVER and I loved the new trailer they put out. It looks just as funny as its predecessor. What I loved even more was their Black Friday advertising. No joke, if you entered a certain search phrase into YouTube you got an ad link that let you watch the first Lego Movie for free on YouTube, all day. Honestly that made me super happy even though I own it already. Smart piece of advertising for the sequel and watching that movie is guaranteed to put you in a good mood, which was helpful on Black Friday. I’m seeing the sequel day 1, Warner Brothers making some solid choices with their Lego franchise.

Speaking of Warner Brothers;

Detective Pikachu teaser trailer……………………….
    NOPE. ABSOLUTELY NOT. NO WAY IN HELL. WTF NINTENDO, WTF WARNER BROTHERS?! YOU ALL HAD ONE JOB! How the hell do you make CG Pokemon designs that actually look really good and then use them for this piece of shit movie? Still can’t even get a console version of a Pokemon game, why on earth are you trying to make a movie and WHY ARE YOU STARTING WITH THIS BIZARRE ASS SPINOFF?! Ryan Reynolds….as a PG Deadpool….as a talking Pikachu that only 1 person can understand…..That’s what we get here. A talking Pikachu that talks to one of the nobodies from Jurassic World 2, a kid who in the trailer says he didn’t want to be a trainer when he grew up. No trainer means no combat. No combat means this movie will suck. I’m sorry, I have 0 faith, I’m out...
